What We Look For

Great rally chants energize supporters and persuade observers. We use the scoring guide below to identify chants that do both. Each category is scored on a 1-3 scale, and chants scoring 9/12 or higher typically make the list:

1. Sound & Flow:

   • Are the words clear and easy to shout?

   • Does it have a natural, energetic rhythm (uniqueness is a plus)?

2. Message Clarity:

   • Is the main idea immediately clear to a passerby?

   • Is the message cohesive?

3. Broad Appeal:

   • Does it engage unfamiliar listeners, rather than speaking only to insiders?

   • Would someone not already on our side feel invited to join in?

4. Overall Effectiveness:

   • Putting it all together, is this an effective rally chant?
